Glasgow's live and coming schemes
Wyndford, Maryhill. A £100m regeneration has been approved for 401 affordable homes (343 social rent, 58 mid-market). Wheatley Homes Glasgow is delivering it, with CCG (Scotland) appointed through hub West Scotland, and work is expected to start in spring 2027. The same report says CCG employs 645 people directly (Housebuilding Today, October 2026).
- City Building (Glasgow). It runs a yearly trade apprenticeship intake and advertises other vacancies on myjobscotland (City Building).
- Employers tied to local training. Glasgow Clyde College lists Morrison Construction, Ashleigh, Bell Group, McTaggart and CCG among its construction industry partners (Glasgow Clyde College).
Our read: affordable housing and maintenance tend to give steadier work, mainly for bricklayers, joiners, plumbers, electricians and labourers.

College routes in Glasgow
Glasgow Clyde College teaches construction at Anniesland and Cardonald, from entry level to HNC (Glasgow Clyde College):
- Pre-Vocational Programme. For people with little experience of hand tools, woodwork joints, basic brickwork and painting. 36 weeks, 2.5 days a week.
- NPA Construction. The next step up. Anniesland focuses mainly on painting and decorating and joinery, Cardonald on joinery and brickwork. Also 36 weeks, 2.5 days a week.
- Pre-apprentice (City and Guilds). Described as a first step towards an apprenticeship, with company visits, help finding a work placement and CV support. The college says it has strong links with tier 1 contractors, and site visits and work experience are built in.
Apprenticeships: City Building and apprenticeships.scot
City Building (Glasgow), based at 350 Darnick Street, G21 4BA, says its 2026 apprenticeship recruitment has closed and that 2027 details will be published in March 2027 (City Building).
For other roles, search apprenticeships.scot, Scotland's official service for Modern and Foundation Apprenticeships, rather than the English gov.uk site. Our read: a Glasgow Clyde placement gives an employer the chance to see your practical work, which makes a later apprenticeship application much stronger.
No experience? A Glasgow plan
- Enrol on a pre-vocational, NPA or pre-apprentice course, and take the CITB test at Cardonald if you're a Glasgow Clyde student.
- Note City Building's March 2027 release and apply early.
- Register with agencies covering Glasgow and the surrounding council areas. Bring your card, right-to-work share code, references and PPE.
- Ask whether a role is PAYE or CIS. CIS deducts a fifth of every payment, or 30% if you haven't registered (GOV.UK).
- Search Find a Job for Clydeside vacancies.
